Slate and tile are easy to break if you walk on them the wrong way. A lot of the damage I see came from someone working on the roof who didn't know how. Before you let anyone climb up there, make sure they've worked on slate or tile before.
We pull out cracked, broken and slipped slates and put in new ones, matched as closely as we can to the size, color and thickness of your roof. Each new slate is fastened properly so the repair holds up.
When a slate roof has too many failing pieces, or the nails are giving out across the whole roof, we'll talk through replacing sections or the entire roof. If a repair will do the job, I'll tell you so.
If you want the look of slate with less weight and lower cost, synthetic slate is an option. We'll go over how it compares to natural slate for your house.
We replace cracked and broken clay or concrete tiles and fix the leaks around them, with care not to break more tiles on the way.
For tile roofs with widespread damage or worn-out underlayment, we can repair or replace it, depending on what's going on underneath.
Copper is the traditional partner for slate because it lasts the way slate does. We fabricate and solder copper vent boots and pipe flashing, install copper valleys, and replace worn-out flashing around chimneys, walls and dormers. The photos on this page are copper vent flashing and copper work we installed on a slate roof.
